This Day

This Day

I have seen this day before
And foolishly have walked on by
Too full of me
My meager ways
Obscured from sight by
Molehills risen as mountains,
Such self-creations
These clouds brewed within,
While missing the mare’s tails that scud above
As they gloriously steamship by.

I stumbled-on too frequently,
  eyes down
  half closed
  half blind.

This day starts like any other
In its thousand different ways
Though this one has made a modest point
To call unassuming attention to itself.

Ands so as if to say,
She spoke to me:
You found the woes of winter such
That I have brought in sweet bouquet
And sumptuous songs of sparrow-speak
These dewy jewels on verdant grass
And zephyrs bearing blossom showers
Redolent reminders of such beauty here
Yours but for a bended knee
And a softly listening ear…

These whispers roared and beckoned so
Compelling and seducing me
That I have left the world behind
The one that weights the spirit down
And found my way
A barefoot boy
To wander in the garden green
And there to grow my very soul.

Drive By

There are signs that clearly point the way,
If you read them
If you let them:

I drive by Chickadee Way
And wonder what they say there
About me
About you.
What do they know?
And I puzzle that a handful of feathers
can so easily cheer
A wanting heart.

I drive by Granite Street
And think long and hard
About just how long and large
The universe is/was/will be
And how small and short my stay
And how great the opportunity.

I drive by Easy Street
(Yes, there is such a place)
And picture people
Warm hand in hand, I think
Blind and blissfully
Joined together to lessen pain
To share a knowing smile
Lessons learned.

I drive by Poet's Corner
(Which is really a pocket park)
And I fill it like black Friday
With a line around the block
Around the world
Sending beauty word by word
Into the tingling future of now.

Drive carefully
But look for your way
Side street, alley or circle
You may need to round the block
Or even get out and walk
To find the streets where your mind can wander
Where your heart can live.

See?

See how it wanders then waits?
See how the harsh edges blur in soft focus?
See how the light from within shines?
See how she waits in the water?
See how they gather in great beauty?
See what we already should know?

An Attempt

Shall I make an attempt at beauty?
And if not
Am I spent without purpose
And such a fool to waste
Precious gifts
Precious time
Blinded by distractions
Self-indulgences
And sent off course
Rocketing
Staggering
Duped?
Have I been had?
