No Harm

I am not a threat to you
And I mean you no harm,
So put down your weapons
Please.
It is not much I ask of you
And although we differ
I will listen to you
And I will know your part,
I will listen:
I am not a threat to you.

Paul, this is a reply to your poem, strictly playing devil's advocate, no personal meaning involved, but the poem seemed to want an answer. Hope you don't mind. Pat

You want me to
put down my weapons.
How can you know what you ask?
To leave myself so open
begs a trust I cannot find.
You say that you will listen
that you will know my part.
But listening is passive,
stark interpretation,
and leaves a threat unspoken.
You will know my weakness
for which I'll have no defense.
So I stand undecided,
weapon clenched in hand.
You ask too much, and I know not what to do.
